Damage and Failure of a Column-Supported RC Flat Slab Subjected to Impulsive Loading

RC flat slabs supported by an array of columns subjected to the action impulsive pressure were investigated. The designed for static loads according current standards. dynamic responses 4 × 4- and 8 8-column-supported similar, as damage failure. A simplified model consisting a tributary area central column yielded similar results, demonstrating accuracy its reliability. These analyses exhibited modes failure characterized large shear distortions in slab–column connection zone. rest span remained undamaged horizontal position. In all analyses, slab concrete around was fully damaged. rebars failed within limited zone at connections. early integrity reinforcement indicated that it could not fulfill duty; thus, subsequent progressive collapse scenario inevitable. All bent-up failed, their contribution resistance doubtful. analysis entirely different from mode. Impulsive loading those case slab-on-slab impact; both cases, underwent displacement severe narrow zone, whereas almost completely undamaged.
